I am reliably informed that Mrs Stella Perryman is a person of unsound mind, and a lunatic and therefore ask that a jury be impaneled to pass upon the subject.

who being duly impaneled and sworn according to law, after hearing the evidence, returned the following verdict, viz: We of the jury find from the evidence that Mrs Stella Perryman is a person of unsound mind and a lunatic; that the unsoundness of mind is from cause unknown that she was born in ______, and resides in Kuttawa and is 40 years old; that she was not brought into this State for the purpose of becoming a charge upon the Commonwealth; that she owns no estate of any kind; that her father is dead and mother ____ and reside in ______ and ____ has not estate sufficient to support the person under trial; and said Mrs Stella Perryman is not capable of laboring either in whole or in part for her support.

The affiants E S Wilford, and C M Meriwether, say that they are regular practicing physicians, in Lyon County and that on the 16th day of June 1907 they were called to and did make a personal examination of one Mrs. Orpha McCoy, and find her to be insane and that it would be unsafe for her to be taken in person before the court for an inquest.
They further say that she is a proper subject for the insane-asylum

He further says that he is so violently insane that it would not be safe to attempt to bring him into Court for a personal examination and that it would be detrimental to attempt to do so.

The affiant A D Purdy says that the is a regular practicing physician located at Kuttawa in Lyon County Ky, and that he has personally examined W H Sexton as to his mental condition which he did on yesterday and that he found him to be a luntic [sic] absolutely devoid of reason, that he is absolutely incapacitated to attend to any business or to control his estate or to exercise control over any thing owned by him, or to exercise reason about any matter. He further says that he is so violently insane that it would not be safe to attempt to bring him into Court for a personal examination and that it would be detrimental to attempt to do so.

WHEREAS, on the 26th day of December, 1898, FOUNT TANKERSLY, a convict in the State Penitentiary at Eddyville, Ky., who was sentenced to the said Penitentiary by a judgment of the Garrard Circuit Court for life, and was committed to said Penitentiary on September 18th, 1885, was found to be a lunatic by the verdict of a jury and the judgment of the Lyon County Court, and ordered to the asylum.
NOW THEREFORE, in order to authorize his release from the Penitentiary, and confinement in said Asylum, his sentence and punishment is respited, it being distinctly understood that in the event his mind should be restored, he shall be returned to the said Penitentiary in order to serve during the remainder of his life.

Weekly Genealogy Blogging Prompt # 2
A Winter Photo Essay
This is me in 1953 or 1954. This is in old Eddyville, Kentucky, just across the street from the Kentucky Penitentiary. All pictures showing old Eddyville in the background are wonderful to me, as old Eddyville was relocated, and a new Eddyville was built several miles away, when the Barkley Dam was created in the 1960's. The house where we lived, and others surrounding the prison, survive today, as do a few other homes. The entire business district, churches, city hall, post office, school, other homes are all gone and the land where they were is under Barkley Lake. Here are some other pictures of the area, including two postcards showing the old city hall and the old Methodist Church: Link to Kentucky Pics
As I was looking for winter pictures, I noticed that the camera was brought out in the summer for vacations and in the winter, generally, for Christmas pictures. I grew up in Florida, so winter pictures aren't much different from the summer ones except we probably had on a sweater and no shorts - and of course, there was the Christmas tree in the pictures.

My Grandmother is in the front row, second from the right. Her name is Mary Cummins. She later married my grandfather, Elwood Gray. The other women in the picture are 5 of her 6 sisters. There was also one brother. Front row (L to R) Nina C Cummins (b: 12 Feb 1893), Iva Cummins (b: 3 Nov 1880), Mary Cummins (b: 16 Feb 1888), Rebecca Cummins (b: 30 Nov 1889); back row (L to R) Fannie G Cummins (b: 27 Sep 1876, Willie Moses Cummins (b: 24 Jun 1886). Not in the picture is sister Nonia Cummins (b: 20 Sep 1883) and brother John Wesley "Pat" Cummins (b: 23 Apr 1874.
The picture was taken on the front porch of their home in Lyon County Kentucky. The picture was taken before 15 Jul 1911, as that is the date of death for Nina.
I like the idea that they used their guitars as props, and like to imagine that after the picture was taken the dour expressions disappeared and the music began!!!
